Under the wings of seagulls...
The symbol of Sneek is the Waterpoort (Water Gate). This gate is unique and is internationally recognised as the logo which Gaastra, sailmakers, use. However, Sneek has much more to offer. It is also the water sports centre of Fryslân and there are many opportunities in the town to get involved in activities on the water.
The undisputed highlight of the year is the Sneek Week, which attracts a great many visitors to the town. The usually peaceful Sneekermeer (Sneek Lake) becomes a hive of activity, as it is the venue for the final race of the Skűtsjesilen competition, which is held annually.
When you visit Sneek you should savour the famous local delicacy of ‘drabbelkoeken’ a sweet and tasty cake, and take a stroll through the attractive shopping streets.
